TIME100 AI List: TIME Announces the First 100 Artificial Intelligence Experts List of the World.

In 2023, TIME magazine published a special edition titled “TIME100 AI.” This unique edition presented significant individuals who are making a difference in the field of Artificial Intelligence. The cover of the magazine contained wonderful paintings by an artist named Neil Jamieson.

Profiles and interviews with important individuals include musician Holly Herndon, Noam Shazeer from character.ai, renowned researcher Geoffrey Hinton, Meredith Whittaker, president of Signal, Shane Legg from Google DeepMind, Greg Brockman and Ilya Sutskever from OpenAI, Eric Schmidt from Schmidt Futures, writer Ted Chiang, policy adviser Alondra Nelson, and many others.

TIME’s editors and reporters solicited ideas from experts and industry executives to compile this TIME100 AI list. As a consequence, a list of 100 people who are shaping the world of AI today was created. These individuals are thought leaders, inventors, and leaders in the field of artificial intelligence.

TIME’s Chief Executive Officer, Jessica Sibley, stated that TIME’s aim is to recognise those who are making the world a better place. This issue honoured individuals who are driving AI innovation and encouraging AI equity, which is a major topic in the industry.

TIME Editor-in-Chief Sam Jacobs stated that this list represents the relationships and power centres fueling AI’s growth. These people include competitors, regulators, scientists, artists, advocates, and executives, each with their own unique perspectives and contributions.

The TIME100 AI list includes 43 CEOs and founders, including Elon Musk, Sam Altman, and others. There are also 41 women and nonbinary individuals who have made major contributions to AI, including Rumman Chowdhury, Lila Ibrahim, and Fei-Fei Li.

The list includes people of all ages, from 18-year-old Sneha Revanur, who runs Encode Justice, a youth-led movement for ethical AI, to 76-year-old Geoffrey Hinton, who has been vocal about the technology he helped develop.

Anna Eshoo, Ted Lieu, and other government leaders and policymakers are also on the list. Max Tegmark, Emily M. Bender, and Timnit Gebru are among the scientists, researchers, and activists working on AI ethics, bias, and safety.

Grimes, Ted Chiang, Charlie Brooker, and Holly Herndon are among the creative folks who are investigating the influence of AI on society.

Following the publication of the TIME100 AI list, TIME scheduled a series of events centred on women in AI. These events seek to spark meaningful debate and inspire positive change by emphasising AI inclusion and innovation.

Finally, the TIME100 AI issue of 2023 honoured the accomplishments and efforts of those who are changing the AI environment. It emphasised their different backgrounds as well as the essential role they play in the advancement of this influential technology.
