UK Prime Minister Warns about AI Advances in Going Beyond Human Control

Rishi Sunak, the UK Prime Minister of the United Kingdom, issued a warning on Thursday about the dangers of artificial intelligence. He believes AI will bring about a “transformation” in society, but there are concerns, such as technological advances being exploited to construct weapons and criminals utilizing AI. Sunak’s address comes as the British government prepares to hold the AI Safety Summit next week, which will bring together companies and officials to explore the technology’s hazards.

According to the prime minister, Artificial intelligence might make it easier to develop chemical or biological weapons, and criminals could use the technology. Sunak said in the most unlikely but most severe circumstances, there is the risk that humans could lose control of AI which is sometimes referred to as super intelligence.

Sunak’s address comes as the British government prepares for the AI Safety Summit the following week. The event intends to bring together countries and businesses to debate the concerns associated with AI. It will be held in Bletchley Park, the home of the hackers who cracked the code that ended WWII.

Some of the huge language models that support applications such as OpenAI’s ChatGPT and Google’s Bard chat are included in this description. Sunak revealed that the United Kingdom will establish the world’s first AI safety center to examine and test new types of artificial intelligence in order to comprehend the risks.

Sunak said he will propose at the AI Safety Summit next week the formation of a truly global expert committee chosen by the countries and organizations attending to release a state-of-the-art AI science report.

The United States and China are often regarded as the two leaders in AI, housing some of the world’s leading enterprises in the field. The United Kingdom boasts some significant AI companies, including Alphabet-owned DeepMind, as well as strong tech-oriented colleges.
